Eovaldi's Pitching Stalls Tigers Early Offense
Nathan Eovaldi delivered a masterful performance on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while allowing just three earned runs. His outing proved pivotal as the Texas Rangers secured a 10-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday at Globe Life Field. Eovaldi improved his record to 9-7, while Detroit’s Framber Valdez took the loss, dropping to 4-6 after surrendering five earned runs on nine hits.
The game began with Detroit seizing momentum in the second inning. Díaz launched a 414-foot home run to left center, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Tigers extended that advantage later in the frame, scoring two more runs to take a 3-0 lead. Jung doubled to left to score Lopez, and Duran singled to center to bring Jung home, pushing the margin to 5-0 before Eovaldi could regain control.
Rangers Surge in Middle Innings
Eovaldi’s defense and pitching kept Detroit from building an insurmountable lead, but the Rangers’ offense remained quiet until the fifth inning. Keith answered with a 405-foot home run to right center, cutting the deficit to 5-1. The Rangers quickly followed with a two-run blast by Lee, who homered to left center (383 feet) with McKinstry scoring, making it 5-3.
Smith added another home run in the sixth inning, a 406-foot shot to right that narrowed the gap to 6-3. The Rangers’ momentum shifted decisively in the seventh. Osuna singled to left, bringing Carter home, followed by Lopez’s single to right that scored Díaz. Smith then reached on an infield single to shortstop, driving in Osuna to make it 9-3.
