Olivia Miles, a standout rookie from TCU, has been selected as one of the starters for the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game, marking a significant achievement in her inaugural season. The announcement was made on Thursday, and Miles is the sole rookie among the ten players chosen to start.
Joining Miles in the starting lineup are Dallas Wings players Paige Bueckers and Jessica Shepard. Bueckers, who was named Rookie of the Year last season, has continued to excel, averaging 19.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.9 assists this season, helping the Wings to an 11-8 record. This marks her second consecutive All-Star starting selection.
Miles has played a crucial role for the Minnesota Lynx, leading the team to the best record in the league at 15-4, despite the absence of star player Napheesa Collier due to injury. She has been averaging 18.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. During her time at TCU, she led the Horned Frogs to their second consecutive Elite Eight appearance.
In the voting process for the All-Star starters, fans contributed 50% of the votes, while the remaining half was split between media and players. Miles ranked fifth among fans, first with the media, and third with players. Bueckers was the top vote-getter among guards, securing first place with both fans and players, and second with the media.
The other guards selected for the starting lineup include Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell from the Indiana Fever. Notably, Wings rookie Azzi Fudd, the first overall pick in the recent draft, finished 10th in guard voting despite being a fan favorite.
