Melissa ISD Starts Aug. 13, and the Bus App Has Changed

Classes begin Thursday. Melissa has moved from My Ride K-12 to Stopfinder, and families who registered for the bus after Aug. 1 will not ride until September.

Melissa ISD students return to class Thursday, Aug. 13, which is also the beginning of the first nine weeks.

The bus app is different this year

Melissa ISD has moved to the Stopfinder app for transportation information. It replaces My Ride K-12, which is what families used previously.

Access comes by invitation. The transportation department emails an invitation to log in, and it goes to the email address currently on file for the student's primary contact. Families whose contact information has changed should expect that to be the reason nothing arrives.

The app is available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.

Who qualifies

Two paths to eligibility.

Students who live outside a two-mile radius of their school qualify. So do students who live within two miles but have no walkable path to get there.

The district's interactive zoning map, at melissaisd.org/zoning, estimates the distance and shows the walking path and driving route between a home and its school.

The deadline that has already passed

Bus service requires registration, and it is usually requested during new or returning student enrollment. Families who did that need do nothing further.

Families who did not should know the district's cutoff: students had to be registered before Aug. 1 to ride on the first day of school. Registrations received after Aug. 1 mean the student cannot begin riding until Sept. 1.

That is a three-week gap for anyone who registered late, and it is worth planning around now rather than discovering Thursday morning.

Reaching the district

The dispatcher is at 972-837-4314, staffed from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If the line is busy, leave a message. General questions can go to transportation@melissaisd.org.

For a transportation emergency after 4:30 p.m., the district asks families to call 911.
