Economic development leaders from Allen and McKinney have introduced a joint initiative designed to promote the SH 121 corridor as a unified destination for business and residential growth. The effort aims to present the area as a cohesive option for companies and developers considering the North Texas region.
The branding campaign highlights more than 20 projects currently under development or in planning stages along the highway. These include mixed-use sites such as The Farm and the Sunset Amphitheater. Officials describe the corridor as a place where two purposeful cities share a commitment to intentional planning and quality of life.
Dan Bowman, president and CEO of the Allen Economic Development Corporation, stated that the primary goal is to serve as a recruitment tool. He noted that the partnership offers a significant opportunity for both municipalities to attract investment. Michael Kowski, president and CEO of the McKinney Economic Development Corporation, added that the initiative signals to developers that there is a deliberate plan for the area. He observed that very few corridors nationwide are experiencing comparable levels of activity.
The McKinney Economic Development Corporation holds several properties along the route, including 46 acres near Lake Forest Drive and State Highway 121. Kowski confirmed that officials are in active negotiations with a development group regarding that specific parcel. The corporation also owns land adjacent to Hub 121, the future Cannon Beach surf resort, and the McKinney National Airport. Kowski said that owning this land allows city officials to be more intentional in its development.
Local developer Bucky Gillett supported the joint effort, stating that any action helping to drive business to the area is positive.
