Rays Extend Winning Streak

The Tampa Bay Rays extended their winning streak to nine games with a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday at Daikin Park. The win improves Tampa Bay’s record to 52-33, while Houston falls to 43-47.

The game remained scoreless through five innings before Tampa Bay broke the tie in the top of the sixth. Fortes launched a 391-foot home run to left center, giving the Rays a 1-0 lead. Houston responded in the bottom of the same inning when Alvarez hit a 427-foot home run to right center, tying the game at 1-1.

The Rays regained the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Caminero hit a 374-foot home run to left, putting Tampa Bay ahead 2-1. The Astros were unable to answer in the bottom of the seventh or the top of the eighth.

The game was decided in the top of the eighth inning. Fortes doubled to center field, and Walls scored from first base to make it 3-1. The Rays held on for the win.

Pitching Performances

Nick Martinez started for Tampa Bay, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing one earned run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Kevin Kelly earned the win with 1.2 perfect innings. Casey Legumina recorded the save situation with one scoreless inning, and Bryan Baker closed out the game with one hitless inning and one strikeout for his 23rd save.

Spencer Arrighetti started for Houston, pitching six innings and allowing one earned run on two hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Steven Okert took the loss after allowing one earned run in one inning. Enyel De Los Santos pitched two innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Final Notes

The game drew an attendance of 36,039 fans at Daikin Park. The Rays’ nine-game winning streak is their longest since 2019. Houston’s loss drops them below .500 for the first time this season.
