The general white-tailed deer season opens across North Texas on Saturday, Nov. 7, but hunters in Collin County will not be switching to rifles. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department rules for the county allow only archery equipment and crossbows during both the youth and general seasons.
The county's archery-only season, which began Oct. 3, ends Friday, Nov. 6. The general season then runs through Jan. 3, 2027, followed by a late youth-only season from Jan. 4 to Jan. 17.
Limits and reporting
Collin County's bag limit is four white-tailed deer for the year across all seasons, with no more than two bucks and no more than two antlerless deer. Of the two bucks, only one may have an inside antler spread of 13 inches or more, according to the state's county regulations.
Hunters must report every buck and antlerless deer they take within 24 hours, either through the Texas Hunt and Fish app or online. On properties enrolled in the state's Managed Lands Deer Program, harvest is limited to that program's tags.
Crossbows are allowed in the youth and general seasons. During the archery-only weeks, they are off limits except for hunters with a physician-certified upper-limb disability.
