Decisive Moment in the Ninth

Jake Nimmo provided the game-winning run with a single to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning. His hit drove in Josh Smith, who had reached base earlier in the frame, giving the Texas Rangers a 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros. The win improved the Rangers' record to 49-47, while the Astros fell to 47-51.

Early Astros Lead and Rangers Response

Houston took an early advantage in the second inning. Josh Smith singled to right, allowing Andrew Benintendi to score, with Evan Carter moving to third. Two batters later, Josh Jung doubled to right, bringing Carter and Smith home to extend the Astros' lead to 3-0.

The Rangers began their comeback in the fourth inning when Jose Altuve homered to left center, cutting the deficit to 3-1. However, the Astros added another run in the fifth inning when Nimmo tripled to right, scoring Carter to make it 4-1.

The Rangers mounted a significant rally in the seventh inning. After a sacrifice fly by Adolis Garcia scored Marcus Semien, making it 4-2, Paredes followed with a single to center that drove in two more runs, tying the game at 4-4.

Home Runs Keep Score Tight

The eighth inning featured back-to-back home runs. Smith homered to left, giving the Rangers a 5-4 lead. The Astros immediately answered when Josh Jung homered to left, tying the game at 5-5 and forcing extra innings.

Pitching Performance

Josh Hader took the loss for Houston, pitching 0.0 innings and allowing three hits and one earned run. He finished with a 3-1 record. Bryan King pitched 2.0 innings for the Astros, allowing one earned run on three hits.

For the Rangers, Jacob Latz earned the win with a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and one walk. He improved his record to 2-1. MacKenzie Gore started for Texas, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts. Tyler Alexander pitched 1.1 innings without allowing a run, striking out two batters. Cole Winn and Robby Ahlstrom each pitched over an inning, combining for three earned runs. Peyton Gray pitched 0.2 innings and was charged with one earned run, while Ben Peoples closed out the game with a scoreless inning.

The game was played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with an attendance of 33,804.
