The Houston Cougars have strengthened their defense with the signing of Myles Rowser, a safety who previously played for the Arizona State Sun Devils. This move comes in light of new NCAA eligibility regulations, which allow certain players from the class of 2022 to secure an additional season of play if they did not redshirt or enter a professional NFL contract.

Rowser, who did not redshirt during his first year, participated in nine games with the Campbell Camels. He also attended a rookie minicamp with the Seattle Seahawks but did not sign a professional contract. His collegiate experience includes time at Campbell in 2022, New Mexico State in 2023, and Arizona State from 2024 through 2025.

Over his career, Rowser has amassed a total of 295 tackles, which includes 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, and 16 passes defended, among other statistics. During the 2025 season, he played in all games for Arizona State, achieving a personal best of 84 tackles, along with four tackles for loss and three passes defended.

His performance earned him recognition on the All-Big 12 Third Team.

The Cougars already feature strong veterans at the safety position, including Kentrell Webb and Jordan Allen, who recorded 71 and 48 tackles, respectively, last season. They have also recently acquired Tulane safety Javion White, who contributed 50 tackles in the previous year.

With Rowser joining the team, the Cougars may consider adjusting their lineup to optimize their defensive strategy as they aim for competitiveness in the Big 12.
