As the regular season draws closer, the Houston Texans are struggling to bolster their wide receiver group. The team has made significant roster additions, such as Jadeveon Clowney and Mario Edwards, to strengthen the defensive line, but has not pursued notable changes to their receiving corps.
Recent developments in free agency have seen top wide receivers, including Deebo Samuel, Stefon Diggs, and Keenan Allen, sign with other teams, limiting Houston's options. Although Tyreek Hill is still available, concerns regarding his recovery from a torn ACL injury make his signing unlikely.
Other potential targets like Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins may not provide the desired improvement to the Texans' depth chart.
Currently, the Texans are relying on younger players, with Nico Collins positioned as a potential WR1 and Jayden Higgins as a candidate for WR2. Additional contributions are expected from Jaylin Noel, Xavier Hutchinson, and a healthy Tank Dell. Despite the lack of major acquisitions, the Texans' front office remains confident in their existing wide receiver lineup.
With over $20 million in cap space, they retain the capability to make adjustments if needed, but the likelihood of adding a significant wide receiver before the season appears low.
