Quantrill dominates the mound

The Texas Rangers secured a 5-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Cal Quantrill was the standout performer, pitching seven complete innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed four hits, issued no walks, and struck out five batters to earn the win, improving his record to 5-4.

The Rangers' offense provided ample support, scoring five runs while the Nationals were held scoreless.

Scoring sequence

The Rangers took an early lead in the first inning when Langford scored on a ground ball into a double play. In the second inning, Foscue extended the lead with a solo home run to left field. The third inning proved decisive for Arlington, as the home team added three more runs.

First, Langford scored on a fielder's choice hit. Next, Seager crossed the plate on a walk to Foscue. Finally, Nimmo scored on an infield single by Freeman.

The Nationals challenged a call in the third inning, but the decision was upheld.

Pitching and records

For the visiting Nationals, Jackson Kent took the loss. He pitched 3.2 innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs while issuing three walks and striking out three batters. Trevor Williams followed, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out five. Yovanny Cruz finished the game, pitching one inning and allowing one hit.

The Rangers' bullpen provided the final outs. Robby Ahlstrom pitched 0.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Jakob Junis pitched 0.1 innings, recording one strikeout without allowing a hit. Tyler Alexander closed the game, pitching one inning, allowing one hit and one walk, and striking out one batter.

The win improved the Rangers' record to 62-64, while the Nationals fell to 60-67. Attendance at Globe Life Field was 22,126.
