George Odum is back with the Houston Texans for their game against the Cincinnati Bengals, receiving his second elevation from the practice squad this season. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reported the move Sept. 19.
Odum played 71% of Houston’s special teams snaps against the Buffalo Bills and made one tackle in a 36-31 Texans loss. Caleb Bullock and Reed Blankenship are healthy, but Houston is adding Odum for special teams work. Coach DeMeco Ryans previously praised Odum’s playmaking during the preseason.
Pro Football Focus ranked him 26th among 29 Houston special teams players for the Buffalo game, while noting its overall grade does not reflect performance in each phase.
The ninth-year NFL player has also played for the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers, earning one All-Pro honor with each team. One set of career totals lists 205 tackles, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Elsewhere, he is listed with 209 tackles, three interceptions, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 12 starts in 109 games.
Under the current arrangement, Houston can elevate Odum once more. The Texans are scheduled to play the Colts in Week 3, which could be his final elevation before the team would need to place him on the 53-man roster or use another option.
