Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway will miss the team’s Week 2 game against Prairie View A&M with a high-ankle sprain, and Nate Bennett is set to make his first college start, Pete Thamel reported. The Bears are 0-1 after losing 17-16 to Auburn.
Lagway completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against Auburn. He stayed in the game after injuring his ankle. Earlier in the week, coach Dave Aranda had listed Lagway as day to day. On3 reported that Lagway had tried to play through the injury but was considered doubtful for the Prairie View A&M matchup.
Baylor scored a touchdown in the closing seconds against Auburn, then missed a two-point try that would have given the Bears the victory. The source said it was unclear whether Lagway’s condition influenced the choice to attempt the conversion. Baylor is scheduled to host Louisiana Tech next weekend and open Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26.
No additional information was provided about Lagway’s recovery timetable.
