Melissa ISD's stadium will host the Texas Dance Educators Association's North Texas Advancing Pilot Contest on Monday, Nov. 2, with 31 high school dance and drill teams from Class 4A through 6A schools, the district announced Tuesday.

The Melissa High School Ruby Belles are scheduled to perform at 11:40 a.m. at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium. It will be the team's first TDEA assessment, and the Ruby Belles plan to perform one of their halftime routines, according to the district.

How the contest works

TDEA's dance team assessments score teams on precision, technique, choreography and showmanship. Each team performs one routine for a panel of three judges and receives a rating from Division I through Division IV.

The association has run the assessment as a pilot program for three years, the district said, with the aim of making it a UIL-sanctioned event.

This year's pilot adds something new for Class 5A: a finals round. The top-scoring 5A teams will advance and compete for first, second and third place.

Tickets

Admission is $10 per person plus fees, sold through the district's fine arts ticket page at melissaisd.org/fine-arts-tickets. The district is encouraging families to come out and cheer the Ruby Belles.

The contest comes about a week after Coach Kenny Deel Stadium hosted the UIL Area B 5A marching contest.
