Lyft will offer half-price transportation to polling locations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Nov. 3. Dallas is about 37 miles south of Melissa. The offer covers qualifying Lyft rides as well as bike and scooter trips. The discount is 50%, up to $10, when the destination is a polling place.
Riders can apply the promotion with code VOTE26 between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. Dallas County polling locations are set to be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the county website says.
The offer comes through Lyft Up Voting Access, a nonpartisan initiative operated by the company. Lyft representative Sabiha Nur said Lyft has provided free or discounted transportation for presidential, midterm and some runoff elections. She said nearly 4 million people have used Lyft to get to polling places, deliver ballots or participate in voter registration and related events.
During the current election cycle, Lyft is partnering with the League of Women Voters, the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans and the Students Learn Students Vote Coalition. The company said those partnerships are designed to assist older people, individuals with disabilities, students, veterans and lower-income communities that can face transportation obstacles.
