Two students from Sumeer Elementary School were hospitalized Monday morning after a vehicle struck them while they were riding bicycles toward campus, according to the Melissa Police Department.
Officers responded to the crash at approximately 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of Eaglestone Drive and Valley Run. Both children were transported to a medical facility where they were treated for injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.
Melissa ISD confirmed the identities of the victims in a communication sent to parents and staff, stating that both students attend Sumeer Elementary. The district noted that campus administrators and district police also arrived at the scene to assist.
School officials stated that the families were notified immediately following the incident. A message included in the district letter asked the community to keep the students and their family in their thoughts during this difficult period.
The communication emphasized the need for patience and caution in school zones and nearby residential areas, though it did not specify whether traffic patterns were altered or if additional safety measures would be implemented as a result of the crash.
