Frisco Lone Star and Melissa meet in the District 5-5A Division I season opener at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium. The game marks the first matchup for both teams in the district standings. Frisco Lone Star enters the contest with an undefeated record, while Melissa is 1-2 on the season.

The Rangers are ranked No. 7 in the High School On SI Texas statewide Top 25. Last year, the team advanced to the 5A Division I state championship game in Arlington. Quarterback Trey Wright, a committed recruit to USC, leads the offense.

He has accumulated over 800 passing yards and nine touchdowns, along with 300 rushing yards and five scores. Lone Star has outscored opponents 41, 48, and 56 in its three victories against Royse City, Cedar Hill, and Simon Gratz.

Melissa finished last season 11-3 and reached the 5A Division II state semifinals. The Cardinals began the current campaign with a 63-21 victory over Pulaski Academy from Arkansas. They have since lost to Denton Guyer and Rockwell. Running back Jeremiah Tabor is a key player for the home team, with nearly 400 rushing yards and six touchdowns this season.

Buck Ringgold, a veteran high school sportswriter, is providing live updates and scoring for the event. The game is available for viewing on the NFHS Network.
