Avelo Airlines is set to launch commercial operations at McKinney National Airport, marking the carrier’s arrival as the anchor tenant at the facility. The airline announced it will begin nonstop service from the airport, identified by the code DTX, on Wednesday, November 11. This expansion introduces new travel options for residents in the region, which is located approximately 7 miles south of Melissa.

The initial schedule includes direct flights to Las Vegas, Nevada, and four destinations in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa. McKinney National Airport, which first opened its doors in 1979, will see these routes begin with introductory one-way fares starting at $99. Additionally, passengers who complete their bookings through Avelo Airlines before the end of August will receive their first checked bag at no cost.

Company leadership highlighted the economic impact of this expansion. Avelo Airlines stated that the new operations at McKinney will generate more than 100 new jobs. Andrew Levy, the founder and chief executive officer of Avelo, described the airline as being designed for such opportunities. He noted that the combination of low fares, the convenience of using DTX, and the carrier’s on-time performance aims to provide a strong option for travelers.

Local officials have expressed support for the development. McKinney Mayor Bill Cox welcomed the airline’s decision to invest in the regional market and thanked the company for its confidence in the area. He emphasized that the new service would provide exciting nonstop connectivity for the community.

Ken Carley, the director of McKinney National Airport, also commented on the partnership. He stated that local travelers have numerous new developments to anticipate, including the ability to save both time and money by flying from a nearby airport. Carley noted that Avelo is committed to addressing the travel needs of the community through this investment.

Avelo Airlines entered the market in 2021, positioning itself as the first new commercial airline in the United States in 15 years. The carrier currently operates flights to 37 destinations across 15 states, along with two locations in Puerto Rico. The specific details regarding the full roster of future routes or additional financial terms were not provided in the announcement.
