The Royse City ISD soccer program participated in the Melissa 7-on-7 TST tournament held in late July, using the event to prepare for the upcoming fall season. The competition provided players with early live-action experience and an opportunity to build team cohesion before official games begin.
The district sent two squads to the tournament: a first-string team and a second-string team. Both groups delivered strong performances throughout the event. The second-string unit played four matches and competed effectively, according to district social media posts.
The first-string team advanced through the bracket to face seven other squads, eventually reaching the championship match. In the final game, the Bulldogs fell to Dallas W.T. White with a score of 5-3.
Despite the defeat, head coach Alexi Upton expressed pride in the team's effort. Upton described the run to the final as a significant step for the program, emphasizing the importance of learning how to execute plays and win games as the team works toward district titles and playoff appearances.
