Denton is about 33 miles west of Melissa. Bezos Academy Denton has opened at Texas Woman’s University with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a $6 million preschool, the largest Bezos Academy location in Texas. The six-classroom facility, at 1820 Frame St. on university-owned property, is scheduled to begin serving students Sept. 8.

The school will provide full-day, Montessori-inspired instruction to as many as 120 children ages 3 to 5. Scholarships will cover tuition, meals, educational materials and additional programming. Twenty percent of seats are reserved for children of TWU students, faculty and staff, while the remaining 80% are available to surrounding-community families. The school is fully enrolled for fall 2026 following a lottery.

The project was developed by TWU, Bezos Academy and the City of Denton, which contributed $1.5 million. TWU Chancellor and President Carine M. Feyten said the academy is intended to help address child care-related financial challenges for some TWU student-parents and expand access to education.

Feyten, Bezos Academy Chief Learning Officer Dr. Brandi Kenner, Denton Mayor Chris Watts and Texas Women’s Foundation President and CEO Karen Hughes White spoke at the ceremony and joined the ribbon cutting before guests toured the facility.
