Dallas lies about 37 miles south of Melissa. A law enforcement response in Johnson County ended after officials determined that a reported shooting was not real.
Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office were sent to County Road 1230 at roughly 8:30 a.m. Monday following a report of gunfire. The people at the address were safe, and deputies found nothing indicating that a shooting had taken place.
County officials said the incident resembled a swatting call. In such an incident, a person submits false information about an emergency to bring a large police response to a location without the occupants’ knowledge. WFAA reported the officials’ statement.
