Klassen Dominates on the Mound
The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Houston Astros 3-1 on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas. Rookie George Klassen was the standout performer, pitching seven scoreless innings for the victory. He allowed just one hit while striking out seven batters and walking three. Klassen improved his record to 2-1 with the win.
Angels Build the Lead
The Angels took an early lead in the third inning when Schanuel singled to center, allowing Meckler to score. The score remained 1-0 until the fourth inning, when Lowe hit a home run to left field, extending the Angels' lead to 2-0. In the fifth inning, Neto doubled to shortstop, and Schanuel scored to make it 3-0.
The Angels maintained this three-run cushion for the remainder of the game.
Astros Strike Back Late
The Astros managed to score their only run in the eighth inning. Smith hit a home run to left field, bringing Houston within one run at 3-1. However, the Angels' bullpen held on to secure the win.
Jose Fermin pitched one-third of an inning, allowing two hits and one earned run. Ryan Watson pitched two-thirds of an inning without allowing hits or earned runs, striking out one batter. Ben Joyce closed the game with one inning of work, allowing no hits or earned runs and striking out two batters to earn the save.
