Late Surge Secures Victory
The Houston Astros overcame an early deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Angel Stadium. Houston’s offense remained quiet for most of the contest before erupting with four runs in the ninth inning to secure the win. Cristian Javier earned the victory for the Astros, while Jose Fermin took the loss for the home team.
Josh Hader recorded his 13th save of the season. The final attendance was 30,121.
Early Angels Lead
The Angels established control early, scoring two runs in the first inning against Houston starter Tatsuya Imai. In the top of the first, Neto scored on a sacrifice fly by Schanuel to center field, followed by Trout scoring on a single by Grissom to right. Imai struggled, allowing two earned runs and four walks in 0.2 innings before being relieved by AJ Blubaugh.
The Angels extended their lead in the third inning. Grissom homered to left center, a 395-foot shot, to make it 0-3. Adell then doubled to right, driving in Lowe to push the margin to 0-4.
Houston finally got on the board in the fourth inning when Trammell hit a 412-foot home run to center field, making the score 1-4. In the eighth inning, Alvarez singled to left, scoring Peña to make it 2-4.
Ninth-Inning Rally
The game shifted dramatically in the bottom of the ninth. With the Angels’ bullpen holding the lead, the Astros mounted a comeback. Spence grounded into a fielder's choice to second, but Trammell scored on an error, and Allen advanced to third on a subsequent error by second baseman Grissom. The Angels challenged the call on Allen, but it was upheld.
