A reported threat that led a Melissa preschool to close last week is not credible, the Melissa Police Department said Friday.
In an update released by the city on Oct. 2, police said investigators worked with partner law enforcement agencies to run down the information and leads connected to the report involving the Primrose School of Melissa. "At this time, investigators have determined there is no credible threat to Primrose School of Melissa or the Melissa community," the department said.
The case began Sept. 28, when the city said Melissa police were assisting with an investigation tied to the Primrose School system. According to that first release, early reports indicated that a former resident had made a shooting threat, and the Melissa location closed as a precaution.
Police said then that they had shared information with police in the community where that person now lives and were coordinating with it.
Police have not identified the former resident or said whether anyone faces charges, and the Friday update did not say when the school reopened. The department did not describe the nature of the threat beyond the initial release.
