Melissa's police officers and firefighters will trade their usual roles for a night on the diamond on Saturday, Oct. 3, when the second annual Melissa Public Safety Fall Classic takes the field at 6 p.m.

The game is a softball matchup between the Melissa Police Department and the Melissa Fire Department, according to the Melissa Chamber of Commerce, which lists the event on its calendar and among its annual community events. It will be played at the Z-Plex, 4220 E. Melissa Road; the chamber's events page places it at the Ford Sports Village there.

Admission is free and the chamber says all ages are welcome.

The first edition was played in September 2025. The chamber's listing for that game said it was meant to raise benevolent funds for the city's first responders, and it drew business sponsors at several levels.

Sponsorships are again available this year. The chamber's listing directs anyone interested to Michael Foster at 972-342-1500, or to the QR code on the event flyer for the organizers' registration and sponsorship site.

The chamber calendar has more public events in town next week, including an Aria Fitness ribbon cutting on Monday, Oct. 5, and a groundbreaking with Texas Sparks Construction on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Both run from 5 to 7 p.m. and are open to the public, according to the chamber calendar.

Friday's heavy rain across North Texas has already pushed back some outdoor events in the region. Anyone heading to the Z-Plex may want to check the chamber's or the city's social media pages for any change before leaving home.
