NYSE Texas president, water district chief and area mayors headline Collin College policy summit backed by the Melissa chamber

The half-day Collin Leadership Policy Summit on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Frisco campus features six panels on growth, water, roads, talent and AI. Tickets are on sale; seating is limited.

Business, education and government leaders from across Collin County will gather Wednesday, Oct. 21, for the fourth Collin Leadership Policy Summit, a half-day program on the issues facing North Texas as it grows. The Melissa Area Chamber of Commerce is one of 13 chambers partnering with Collin College on the event.

The summit runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Collin College Frisco Campus Conference Center, 9700 Wade Blvd. It is open to the community, and tickets are sold online at collin.edu/policysummit. The college says seating is limited.

Bryan Daniel, president of NYSE Texas, the New York Stock Exchange's Texas operation, is the featured lunch speaker.

The panels

Six discussions are scheduled in two rounds, starting at 9:15 and 10:15 a.m.:

  • Higher education: University of North Texas President Harrison Keller, Collin College District President Neil Matkin, UT Dallas President Prabhas Moghe and state Rep. Matt Shaheen of House District 66, moderated by Methodist Richardson Medical Center President Ken Hutchenrider.
  • Infrastructure for growth: Travis Campbell, TxDOT's director of transportation planning and development; Jenna Covington, executive director and general manager of the North Texas Municipal Water District; McKinney Mayor Bill Cox; and Trevor Yealy, head of revenue for Avelo Airlines.
  • Civil discourse: Frisco Mayor Mark Hill, state Rep. Jeff Leach of House District 67 and Allen Mayor Chris Schulmeister, moderated by Chris Walsh of the George W. Bush Presidential Center.
  • Workforce: Executives from Bank of America, TIAA, Gulf States Toyota and Children's Health, moderated by Frisco Chamber of Commerce President Christal Howard.
  • Artificial intelligence: Leaders from WhitegloveAI, the tax firm Ryan and Texas Health Resources, moderated by Collin College trustee Raj Menon.
  • Economic development: Dallas Regional Chamber President Brad Cheves, Plano Mayor John Muns and J.P. Morgan market executive Graham Perry.

Besides Melissa, the partner chambers are Allen, Greater Anna, Celina, Dallas Regional, Farmersville, Frisco, McKinney, Plano, Princeton-Lowry Crossing, Prosper, Richardson and Wylie. The Collin County Business Alliance is the title sponsor.

"North Texas continues to grow and evolve," Matkin said in the college's announcement, adding that the decisions made now will shape the region's future.
