Melissa ISD's school meals change starting today, Wednesday, Oct. 14, as the district's food service company, Aramark, rolls out a revamped menu at every campus.
The district says the changes grew out of parent and student answers to the food service survey it ran last month, and several of the new items trace directly to that feedback.
Elementary schools
Lunch lines at the elementary campuses will offer three or four entrée choices a day, up from one or two. Students will also see a wider range of fruits and vegetables. At breakfast, yogurt parfaits join the menu, an addition the district credits to survey responses.
Middle and high school
Secondary students get a new concept called Tortilla, where they can build their own nachos and taco salads and pick their toppings. The Test Kitchen, which already rotates a different entrée each week, is adding a Mediterranean bowl to that lineup, another idea the district says came from the survey.
At the Melissa High School Food Hall, new offerings include salads and wraps made to order, snack packs and a bento box.
