The Tampa Bay Rays secured a 3-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, July 29, at Tropicana Field. The game’s outcome was determined in the opening frame, where two consecutive home runs by Tampa Bay players generated all three runs of the contest.
Diaz opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. His blast traveled 372 feet to right field, giving the Rays a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Vilade extended the advantage significantly. His home run to left center, measuring 420 feet, drove in Aranda. That single play accounted for two runs, pushing the score to 3-0 before the Rangers could respond.
Pitching Performance
Texas Rangers starter MacKenzie Gore took the loss, pitching seven innings. He allowed three hits and three earned runs while striking out nine batters and issuing no walks. His record fell to 6-9. Ben Peoples relieved Gore for the final inning of the game, pitching one scoreless frame with one walk and no hits or strikeouts.
For Tampa Bay, the pitching staff combined for a complete-game shutout. Casey Legumina started, throwing 1.2 innings without allowing an earned run. Ian Seymour earned the win, pitching 4.2 innings of hitless relief. He allowed two hits and one walk while striking out four batters. His record improved to 7-3.
The Rays’ bullpen closed out the game efficiently. Garrett Cleavinger pitched 0.2 innings, earning his 19th save. Kevin Kelly followed with one perfect inning, striking out three batters and recording his 21st save. Bryan Baker finished the game with a scoreless inning, earning his 29th save. The Rays’ pitching line was flawless after the first two innings, allowing no further runs or hits.
