Sandell supplies the finish
Tate Sandell's 47-yard field goal on the final scoring play gave Oklahoma a 27-24 victory over Texas on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Cotton Bowl. The kick completed a fourth-quarter comeback for the Sooners, who were the home team, against the visiting Longhorns.
Texas builds an early lead
Texas scored the game's first points in the opening period when Arch Manning connected with Cam Coleman for a 41-yard touchdown pass. Gianni Spetic's kick made it 7-0, matching the quarter score.
Oklahoma answered in the second period when Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown, with Sandell's kick tying the game at 7-7. Manning then threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo, and Spetic added the extra point for a 14-7 Texas lead. Spetic's 23-yard field goal extended the Longhorns' advantage to 17-7 before halftime.
Oklahoma rallies in the second half
Sandell opened the third-period scoring with a 53-yard field goal, cutting the margin to 17-10. The quarter scores were Texas 0 and Oklahoma 3.
The fourth quarter produced five scoring plays. Lloyd Avant's 2-yard touchdown run, followed by Sandell's kick, tied the game at 17-17. Texas moved back in front when Peyton Bowen returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown, with Sandell's kick making it 24-17.
