Quarterback DJ Lagway has made the decision to transfer to Baylor after a difficult season with the Florida Gators. Lagway, who was considered one of the top players in his recruiting class, entered Florida with high hopes as the anticipated successor to Graham Mertz.
After Mertz's injury during the sixth game, Lagway took over as the starting quarterback and helped the team achieve a 5-1 record in their final six games, including wins against ranked opponents.
However, Lagway's second season did not go as planned. He encountered injuries and faced numerous challenges, including a surprising loss to South Florida, which was Florida's first defeat against the Bulls. His struggles culminated in a game against LSU where he threw five interceptions, contributing to an overall disappointing record of 4-8 for the Gators.
This performance ultimately led to the dismissal of head coach Billy Napier.
Looking for a fresh start, Lagway entered the Transfer Portal and has now signed with Baylor, where he will be under the guidance of head coach Dave Aranda. Tim Tebow, a former Florida quarterback, remarked on Lagway's transfer, suggesting that a new environment could help him thrive.
