Cole Hutson has been granted a temporary injunction allowing him to play for the Texas Longhorns this season, according to sports.yahoo.com, which cited Chip Brown of Horns247. Judge Maria Cantu Hexel issued the ruling through Austin’s 53rd District Court.
The offensive lineman had been declared ineligible before Texas played Ohio State in Week 2. On Sept. 7, coach Steve Sarkisian said Hutson’s situation included a separate NCAA matter that remained under consideration. The order creates an avenue for Hutson to return, but does not establish when he will take the field.
Texas is set to open SEC play against Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, and his status for that contest had not been determined. Sarkisian was expected to speak with local media on Thursday and might have an update.
Texas has continued to receive solid production from both guard spots. Dylan Sikorski, a transfer from Oregon State, became the starter at left guard, although fall-camp expectations had favored Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore for the position. Quarterback Arch Manning said during camp that Hutson’s return to the team caught him off guard and that he was pleased to have him back.
Offensive guard Brandon Baker said Hutson had been an influential teammate and leader and had performed well during camp.
