Dare Ogunbowale is returning to the Houston Texans before Week 4, giving the team four running backs ahead of its home game against the Dallas Cowboys. Ogunbowale was added to the 53-man roster after a short stay with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The veteran spent the 2022 through 2025 seasons with Houston and appeared in more than 60 games. His primary role was on special teams, where he logged more than 1,000 snaps over four seasons. He also had 91 carries for 295 yards and three touchdowns. Ogunbowale was a Texans captain last season, and coach DeMeco Ryans has repeatedly praised him, according to the report.
David Montgomery and Woody Marks are expected to receive most of Houston's running-back snaps. British Brooks may also remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the team's weekly running-back rotation, leaving the returning player with a limited offensive role initially. The reason for the move was not clear.
Houston could be preparing for a possible injury, although Week 4 injury information was not expected until after Wednesday's practice, or seeking an experienced reserve who can help on special teams. Sports Illustrated reported that Ogunbowale provides leadership and special-teams experience.
