The Houston Texans have declared that they will cease contract discussions with quarterback C.J. Stroud once the regular season kicks off. General manager Nick Caserio mentioned that if an agreement is not finalized before the team's opening game against Buffalo on September 13, talks will be postponed until the next offseason.
C.J. Stroud, drafted second overall in 2023, has had his fifth-year option exercised, ensuring his contract extends through 2027. Although Caserio had previously suggested the possibility of an extension prior to the season, no agreement has been reached.
At 24 years old, Stroud boasts a record of 28 wins and 18 losses, leading the Texans to playoff appearances in all three of his initial seasons. He earned the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2023 and recorded a career-high completion percentage of 64% in 2025, contributing to a 12-5 season and a divisional playoff spot.
Nonetheless, he encountered difficulties during the playoffs, notably throwing five interceptions in a 28-16 defeat against New England. Further information regarding future negotiations remains undisclosed.
