The Houston Texans have received encouraging news about offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is anticipated to be out for several weeks because of a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This information follows an injury scare that occurred during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while the injury is concerning, it is not deemed severe and should not lead to a prolonged absence. According to Sleeper's Jacob Barzilla, the Texans will likely require Smith's services at some point this season.
Smith was brought on board during the offseason with a two-year contract valued at $20 million, with expectations for him to assume the starting right tackle role. However, his injury contributes to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the team's offensive line.
ESPN's Adam Schefter indicated that Smith might be out for several weeks, which is better than more serious alternatives. The Texans may not feel pressured to rush Smith back, as Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl player, is currently filling the right tackle position, and the team is pleased with the development of Blake Fisher, who has shown potential this preseason.
Further updates on Smith's recovery and the offensive line situation are expected as the season draws nearer.
