The Houston Texans have brought defensive tackle Junior Tafuna back to their practice squad, as confirmed on social media on September 2, 2026. This marks a return for Tafuna, who had previously been with the Texans during his rookie season after he went undrafted in 2025.

Tafuna was released by the Texans on August 5 and was subsequently claimed by the New York Jets the next day. However, he was among the players let go during the Jets' roster cuts. Now rejoining the Texans, Tafuna is anticipated to provide additional depth for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

During his time at the University of Utah, Tafuna accumulated 108 combined tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 15 tackles for loss over four years. He also recorded three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. Analysts have pointed out that while Tafuna may not possess all the ideal characteristics sought in interior defenders, his athleticism could attract teams.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein described Tafuna as tough at the line of scrimmage and capable of handling double-teams, though he noted that his margin for error is limited.

Further updates regarding Tafuna's role and performance with the Texans are anticipated as the season unfolds.
