TCU Athletics has reinstated media credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, resolving a dispute that began after the newspaper reported on a locker room incident involving safety Jacob Fields. The university announced the restoration of access on September 4, following productive discussions between both parties.
The conflict arose after a report by Star-Telegram reporter Steven Johnson on August 18, which detailed tensions in the locker room and alleged a lack of de-escalation efforts by coaches. The article noted that head coach Sonny Dykes was not fully aware of the issues among players.
TCU officials initially revoked the newspaper's credentials due to alleged threats made against sophomore receiver Dozie Ezukanma, who was involved in the incident.
The incident occurred on August 13, when Ezukanma claimed in an Instagram video that Fields punched him, resulting in a head injury. A TCU football staffer reported the altercation to campus police, leading to Fields' dismissal from the team. He was later charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and turned himself in to Tarrant County police on August 30.
During the credential revocation, Johnson covered TCU's season opener from the stands in Dublin, Ireland.
