TCU is actively seeking a new starting quarterback after Josh Hoover's unexpected transfer to Indiana, the reigning national champions. This move comes after a season where TCU finished with an 8-4 record, which had initially raised hopes for a strong run in the Big 12 championship and potential NFL draft selections.
Before Hoover's announcement, TCU's personnel team had begun compiling a list of quarterback prospects, not foreseeing his departure. General manager Ryan Dorchester mentioned that Hoover was considered a key player for the upcoming season. However, they had also been scouting quarterbacks as a precautionary measure in case he chose to enter the NFL draft.
The Horned Frogs are specifically looking for an upperclassman with one year of eligibility remaining, as they see high school signee Adam Schobel as their long-term solution at quarterback. Following Hoover's transfer, TCU quickly moved to sign Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who had performed well at Harvard for two seasons.
Dorchester had first noticed Craig while reviewing film of a former Harvard receiver, describing him as efficient and decisive with a strong arm.
Despite Hoover's solid performance, he did not garner significant NFL draft interest, leading TCU's coaching staff to believe he would stay. However, head coach Sonny Dykes sensed a shift in Hoover's mindset as the season concluded, indicating a possible transfer. Hoover officially communicated his decision to Dykes on December 17, shortly after the offensive coordinator took a position at South Carolina.
