Southern Methodist University (SMU) has announced the appointment of Derek Gossler as its new Senior Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Generation. This move is part of the university's plan to strengthen its position in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) by prioritizing revenue generation, a key aspect of contemporary college athletics.
Gossler arrives with over 15 years of expertise in fundraising, ticket sales, and commercial strategy. He previously held the position of Senior Associate A.D. for Development and Chief Revenue Officer at the University of Wyoming, where he notably boosted contributions and ticket revenue through the Cowboy Joe Club and set new records in premium seating.
Before his tenure at Wyoming, Gossler was affiliated with the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he played a crucial role in achieving five straight years of record fundraising.
His background also includes significant achievements at Arizona State University, where he contributed to raising $86 million in a significant fundraising initiative and was involved in launching the men's hockey program with the help of major donor support.
Gossler's diverse experience in various athletic departments equips him to meet SMU's objectives as it operates in a highly competitive and affluent market. He aims to enhance revenue through innovative approaches and foster connections with fans, supporters, and corporate partners.
