Kevin Jennings, the quarterback for the SMU Mustangs, is reportedly set to play in the season opener against the Florida State Seminoles. This comes after he suffered a finger injury earlier this month when he jammed it in a locker room door during fall camp.

Head coach Rhett Lashlee has expressed optimism regarding Jennings' recovery, noting that the redshirt senior has started throwing again and is not experiencing any pain. Lashlee mentioned that Jennings will have a complete two weeks to prepare for the game, with the goal of him being fully ready by kickoff.

Lashlee provided an update on Jennings' status, stating, "Things are progressing well. There is no pain, and we are reintegrating him into practice this week. We anticipate he will have a full two weeks to get ready for game one and be at 100%." ESPN's Pete Thamel also confirmed that Jennings has resumed throwing as he moves closer to returning.

The injury was not deemed serious, and Jennings' presence is considered crucial for SMU's performance this season. Last year, he recorded impressive stats, including 3,641 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a completion rate of 66.1%. However, he also led the ACC with 13 interceptions, indicating an area for potential improvement as he prepares for the upcoming season.
