Von Miller, a DeSoto native and former Texas A&M player, has officially joined the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year contract valued at $5.5 million, which could rise to $7.5 million with performance incentives. This signing is particularly meaningful for Miller as he returns to play for his hometown team.

At 37, Miller showcased his skills last season with nine sacks in 2025. His impressive career includes two Super Bowl titles, seven All-Pro selections, and eight Pro Bowl appearances, making him a valuable addition to the Cowboys' lineup.

While some experts consider Miller's signing a minor move regarding the pass rush, his addition is expected to strengthen the outside linebacker (OLB) depth. The Cowboys are projected to have six OLBs on their 53-man roster, along with two more on the practice squad.

The anticipated starters include Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku, with Miller and Malachi Lawrence as key backups. James Houston is expected to secure a spot as the fifth OLB, thanks to his contributions last season, especially in special teams.

The competition for the final OLB position is between Sam Williams and Marist Liufau, both of whom have shown potential on special teams, with Liufau possibly having an advantage due to his versatility. The predicted OLB depth chart features Gary, Ezeiruaku, Lawrence, Miller, Houston, and Liufau.
