Jamichael Stillwell’s planned move to the Texas Tech Red Raiders has been disrupted by a recent legal development. A stay granted by a Georgia appeals court to the NCAA immediately affects his eligibility status. This ruling impacts several college basketball players who had previously secured additional years of eligibility under revised guidelines.
Stillwell, formerly of UCF, was set to join Lubbock after Grant McCasland announced plans for a fifth year. The stay currently makes five athletes ineligible, including Stillwell, RJ Godfrey of Arizona, Chauncey Wiggins of Gonzaga, Dillon Hunter of Clemson, and Dan Skillings of Grand Canyon, according to Jon Rothstein.
This legal shift follows previous courtroom victories that allowed the 2022 recruiting class to claim an extra season.
The situation resembles that of Donovan Atwell, another Texas Tech player halted by a Colorado stay. While Atwell seeks a temporary injunction in Lubbock County with a hearing on October 15, Stillwell had previously pursued a personal injunction in Georgia. The Texas Tech program is working to resolve these issues before the season starts. The team is viewed as a top contender if all roster pieces are available. The outcome of these legal battles remains uncertain, particularly if the NCAA secures favorable rulings in other states.
