Florida State coach Mike Norvell said the Seminoles are preparing for Saturday’s road game at No. 10 Alabama after a 1-1 start and the recent loss to SMU. He said the defeat was disappointing but did not change his confidence in the team. The program is also adjusting to Michael Alford’s firing as athletic director. Florida State’s defense and special teams will have opportunities because freshman linebackers Izayia Williams and Daylen Green are out for the rest of the season. Veteran linebacker Blake Nichelson is expected back this year, though he will miss an extended period. Norvell described Alabama’s defense as fast and explosive, with a larger front than last season.
He said Florida State must win individual matchups, maintain offensive balance and create big plays while accounting for Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell’s running ability outside the pocket.
