The NFL has imposed a $500,000 fine on both the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints following a fight that occurred during their joint practice. This decision highlights the league's commitment to promoting sportsmanship, especially in joint training sessions where unsportsmanlike conduct can lead to injuries.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his concern over the fines and intends to appeal. He remarked that the behavior exhibited during the practice, which included players removing their helmets and engaging in physical confrontations, does not represent the teams or the league positively. "That's pretty harsh, I mean, pretty stiff," Jones stated, acknowledging the league's position on the matter.
Should the fines remain in effect, Jones indicated that he would also consider penalizing the players involved in the incident. Notably, linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku was mentioned for removing the helmet of Saints offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga and throwing a punch at offensive lineman Erik McCoy.
Saints rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner was also involved in several skirmishes, including a physical clash with Cowboys cornerback Caelan Carson and performing a German suplex on Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson. Details regarding the appeal process and any additional player fines have yet to be disclosed.
