The Houston Texans have received encouraging updates about wide receiver Tank Dell's recovery from a serious knee injury. However, general manager Nick Caserio stated that the team is not hurrying his return.

Currently on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return, Dell will be sidelined for a minimum of the first four games of the regular season due to a dislocated kneecap and multiple ligament tears he sustained in December 2024.

Caserio remarked that although Dell is making strides in his recovery compared to the beginning of training camp, he still needs to regain his top-end speed, which is essential for his playing style. Dell has demonstrated improvements in his quickness and route-running, but the Texans are committed to ensuring he can perform at the high speeds necessary for success in the NFL.

Dell's injury kept him out for the entirety of the 2025 season, requiring extensive rehabilitation. The Texans are being cautious about his readiness, emphasizing that being “close” does not mean he is prepared for game action. Before his injury, Dell had become a significant contributor for quarterback C.J.

Stroud, achieving 98 receptions, 1,376 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns across his first two seasons. His ability to stretch the field and create opportunities for other receivers is crucial as the team adjusts to his absence.

Other receivers, including Boutte and Noel, will have chances to step up and build rapport with Stroud during Dell's recovery. This period will also help the Texans identify what their offense may lack without him. Caserio reiterated that the priority is on Dell's full recovery and his ability to return to his previous performance levels, rather than focusing on a specific timeline for his return.
