BJ Edwards, who played as a guard for the SMU Mustangs, has decided to join the Oklahoma Sooners. This commitment was reported by Joe Tipton of On3. Edwards is set to benefit from a five-for-five temporary injunction, which allows him an additional season of eligibility in college basketball.

After spending three seasons at SMU in Dallas, Edwards initially committed to the University of Tennessee out of high school. His time at Tennessee was brief, as he played only 14 games before transferring to SMU through the NCAA transfer portal. At SMU, he played under two different head coaches, Rob Lanier and Andy Enfield, while remaining a key player for the team.

His most notable performance came last season when he played in 28 games, averaging 12.7 points per game and shooting 47.4% from the field. Edwards also contributed 5.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game, earning All-Conference defensive team honors in the ACC with an average of 2.4 steals per game in the 2024-2025 season.

Although SMU showed interest in keeping him, Edwards opted to play for head coach Porter Moser in Norman. The Sooners are looking to enhance their roster after finishing the last season with a 21-16 record and missing out on the NCAA Tournament.
