As the Dallas Cowboys near the end of their training camp in Oxnard, they are reassessing their options for the backup center position. The offense, led by quarterback Dak Prescott and featuring standout wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, is expected to be a strength for the team. However, concerns about the depth of the offensive line persist.

Veteran Matt Hennessy was initially expected to fill in for starter Cooper Beebe if needed, but he has been placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a neck injury. This has left a notable gap in the offensive line's depth. T.J.

Bass has emerged as the primary candidate for the backup center role, despite his limited experience in that position. He has played guard primarily and has started in 10 games over the last three seasons.

During the first preseason game, Bass started at center for two series before being substituted by Nick Leverett, who has more experience at guard but has one career start at center. Following the game, Leverett was seen working as the backup center, while Bass returned to guard in practice.

The Cowboys are evaluating both players as they finalize their plans for the backup center position, which is crucial given Beebe's injury history last season. Currently, Bass is the leading candidate, but Leverett's performance could sway the decision in the coming weeks.
