Jared Nuness, a former assistant coach for Baylor's basketball program, has been issued a two-year show cause penalty by the NCAA due to violations connected to sports betting. Nuness, who was the longest-serving assistant under head coach Scott Drew, resigned from his position in December, citing personal health issues as his reason for leaving.

The NCAA's investigation found that Nuness engaged in unauthorized sports betting activities while at Baylor. From December 29, 2020, to November 28, 2025, he placed around 3,400 bets totaling approximately $38,000 on professional sports. Additionally, he permitted his son to use his betting accounts, which led to three bets totaling $170 on college competitions, although none involved Baylor's programs.

Nuness accepted full responsibility for these actions, which the NCAA categorized as Level II infractions. This situation underscores ongoing issues regarding sports betting in collegiate athletics, as Nuness is not the first to face repercussions for such violations. The NCAA's response serves as a reminder of the strict regulations in place to uphold the integrity of college sports.
