North Texas has confirmed that Tayven Jackson will take the field as the starting quarterback in their season opener against Indiana University. This game, scheduled for September 5 at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, marks the first regular season matchup for the No. 6 ranked Hoosiers.
Jackson, a Greenwood, Indiana native, has a history with Indiana University, having played there for two seasons from 2023 to 2024. Before his time at IU, he was part of the Tennessee football program in 2022. After transferring, he played for the University of Central Florida, where he accumulated a total of 2,151 passing yards, along with 10 touchdowns and 8 interceptions during his career.
In addition to his football connections, Jackson's family ties to IU run deep; he is the sibling of former IU basketball player Trayce Jackson-Davis, who shared on social media that he plans to attend the game to cheer for his brother. This matchup also represents IU's first game since their national championship victory celebrated in January.
