Houston has raised the maximum value of Trent Brown’s 2026 playtime incentives from $1.5 million to $2.5 million. Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti detailed the revised terms in a Sept. 16 post on X. Brown can earn $500,000 at each of five playing-time marks: 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%.
Over The Cap’s Troy Chapman previously said the adjustment leaves Brown’s salary-cap charge and initial cash flow unchanged, with the new incentives added to the original package. Houston re-signed Brown during the 2026 offseason on a one-year, $5.5 million contract. He played in seven regular-season games and one playoff contest for the Texans in 2025, with injuries limiting him at both ends of that season.
Brown stayed with Houston through the offseason program and opened Week 1 at right tackle. The Texans had signed Braden Smith to a two-year, $20 million deal, but injuries led to Smith’s placement on injured reserve, and he did not become the starter. Brown’s most recent season with a start in every regular-season game was 2022, with New England.
He won a Super Bowl with the Patriots in 2018, when Texans general manager Nick Caserio was an executive there.
Pro Football Focus ranked Brown Houston’s sixth-best pass blocker and third-highest offensive lineman in that category in Week 1, behind Aireontae Ersery and Evan Brown. The 2015 seventh-round pick of San Francisco has also played for Cincinnati and Las Vegas, starting 104 of 111 career games. Further details were not provided.
