The Dallas Cowboys have brought back quarterback Joe Milton III to their practice squad after he was initially let go to make room for running back Emari Demercado. Milton went unclaimed during the waiver process and chose to rejoin the Cowboys despite interest from other teams in adding him to their practice squads.
Dak Prescott, the Cowboys' star quarterback, shared his enthusiasm about Milton's return, noting the positive influence he has on the team's quarterback group. Prescott highlighted Milton's development during the offseason and acknowledged the need for support as Milton adjusts to losing the QB2 role he held throughout the 2025 season. Prescott remarked, "It means a lot.
Just me, personally, I thought he would’ve been picked up in the waivers or whatever it is. Fortunate for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better."
Milton, who was selected in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024, was traded to the Cowboys prior to the 2025 season. His preseason performance demonstrated notable improvement, as he completed 29 passes out of 43 attempts for 378 yards, achieving three touchdowns without any interceptions.
This performance showed a marked increase in consistency from the previous season, where he participated in four games, completed 62.5% of his passes, and threw one touchdown with two interceptions.
