The Dallas Cowboys added running back Tyler Goodson on Tuesday, according to a report from sports.yahoo.com citing Houston television reporter Aaron Wilson. The move followed backup Malik Davis’ hip injury, which requires surgery and will end his season.
Emari Demercado became Dallas’ second running back for its game against the Giants, carrying twice for 7 yards behind Javonte Williams. Williams had 12 of the Cowboys’ 18 rushing attempts and added five receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown. Davis also had contributed in an area Dallas will now be without him, logging 304 special teams snaps over the previous two seasons.
Goodson played for Indianapolis across three seasons, appearing in 33 games and totaling 264 yards on 54 carries, or 4.9 yards per attempt. He originally signed with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2023, was released before joining the Colts, then moved through Atlanta’s training camp and practice squad after being cut and clearing waivers.
The 25-year-old is listed at 5 feet 9 inches and 200 pounds. In his final Iowa season, he ran for 1,151 yards and six touchdowns, earned All-Big Ten recognition and posted a 4.42-second 40-yard dash. Israel Abanikanda had been elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, and Goodson’s effect on his status was unclear.
